Why join GEL in your Junior or Senior Year?

You came to MIT to solve the world’s toughest problems—and this is never done alone. These challenges are taken-on by teams. To be an effective engineer in the real world, you’ll need to lead and participate on teams, and to do this effectively, you need the right capabilities and practice.

Will you be ready? To collaborate on a diverse team? To collectively drive a project or program to completion? To accept feedback and advocate for your decisions? To reach consensus on solving problems based on facts and data?

The Gordon Engineering Leadership Program (GEL)a will sharpen your leadership, teamwork, and communication abilities, amplify your technical expertise, and better enable you to create real impact. GEL is also a caring community that connects you to exclusive professional development opportunities, and powerful industry and alumni networks, fueling your success.

Who is GEL for?

GEL is a professional engineering leadership program for juniors and seniors primarily from the MIT School of Engineering and other related majors.

What’s the time commitment?

The GEL1 Program is a total of 18 units completed over a one-year period. These are not traditional units - the work is primarily experiential and there are no P-Sets. See GEL1 requirements here.

What do current GELs or alums say - how can I connect with them for their perspective?

Absolutely! Students are our program’s credentials, so we highly encourage you to engage with current GEL’s or program alums, to hear about their GEL experience and to help you in your decision to apply. To be connected to an alum or current student, please reach out to emillign@mit.edu.
